We set out to build a nursery where children, practitioners and leaders could genuinely thrive.
A few years ago, we faced the same questions many leaders ask today. We searched for answers, tried approaches that promised quick improvements and followed advice. Some worked for inspection, very little created lasting change.
That experience changed everything. It made us realise that real transformation doesn’t come from someone arriving with a checklist. It comes from understanding your people, your purpose and your vision.
So we decided to go back to what mattered most and build something different.
Low motivation, high turnover and environments that didn’t inspire learning or joy.
We stopped, listened and asked better questions. What did we want for our children and for each other?
We made bold changes rooted in our values, our people and our vision for the future.
That journey became the foundation of Abbotswood Academy, supporting others to create lasting change.
Every member of our team helped shape where we were going. When people understand why, they take ownership of how.
We invest time in discovering individual strengths, passions and potential. Great settings are built by great people.
We embraced the outdoors as our primary learning environment. Children became calmer, more engaged and more curious.
We simplified our spaces. Less noise, less clutter, more beauty, more purpose and more opportunities for meaningful play.
We develop and nurture around three times more apprentices than our nursery requires because we believe investing in people creates impact.
The results weren’t instant. But they were lasting. Our nursery grew from around 65% occupancy to supporting over 100 children every day. We opened a purpose-built 60-place preschool lodge. Our team expanded to more than 50 practitioners, apprentices, leaders and qualified teachers.
We’re proud of creating a culture where people genuinely wanted to stay, children flourished and everyone understood the purpose behind what they do.
